Johan Dempers, the visionary behind Survival Africa, began his journey by joining the South African Defence Force at 19. He later worked in security and logistics roles across Southern Africa and the Middle East, gaining hard-earned field experience that shaped Survival Africa’s practical, no-nonsense approach.
Muldene Dempers has exceptional people skills, stays calm under pressure, and has a natural gift for solving problems when plans go sideways. Her adventurous spirit truly ignited during an expedition to the Amazon, where her love for the wild and unknown took root — and never left.
Together, their journeys through Russia, São Tomé, the Amazon and beyond laid the foundation for Survival Africa — delivering reliable equipment and training for real-world needs in security, protection, mining, and search-and-rescue.

Survival Africa was founded by people who have used this and similar equipment in real conditions across Southern Africa, the Middle East, and beyond — not just sold it. We focus specifically on thermal imaging, night vision, optics, and outdoor field equipment rather than carrying a bit of everything, which means the advice you get is grounded in actual use, not just spec sheets.
Survival Africa has physical bases in Yzerfontein near Cape Town and also has representation in Pretoria, with nationwide delivery across South Africa. Wherever you are in the country, we can deliver in as little as 2-4 working days.
Survival Africa is an authorised dealer for leading thermal imaging and optics brands including HikMicro, Pulsar, Acebeam, Bresser, and AGM. We can also source Zeiss, Nikon, Nocpix, and InfiRay on request.
