It is designed to be worn over conventional clothing and is extremely versatile. The ergonomic design of the over vest gives a comfortable fit to officers and security people alike.
This tactical vest offers hook-and-loop guides, as well as adjustable shoulder and waist straps for comfortable wearing.
The fact for many professionals that wear tactical vests regularly is that every single gun can be deadly. It’s hard to predict when or where danger will come from, which is why a tactical vest can be a lifesaver.
MKU was established in 1984, soon we had become the largest manufacturer and supplier of “Fibreglass helmets” to the Indian Army.
Developing industry leadership and expanding globally
We were the first company to develop and manufacture lightweight composite armour outside the US and Europe. We secured our first international contract of body armour for the Spanish Army. In 2008, we ventured into platform protection by acquiring AST, GmbH, a German company with expertise in the domain.
Diversification and opening new avenues
In 2016, we diversified into Soldier Optronics and within a few years, we developed the complete technology in-house. In 2019, we launched our first set of night vision devices and have since launched night vision and thermal weapon sights, monocular, Biocular and handheld devices.

In the past 3 decades, we have expanded our customer footprint to over 100 countries globally and have serviced over 230 forces to date. THE EDGE SHOOTING ACADEMY
To whom it may concern,
I am Leo Prinsloo. I own the Edge Shooter Training Academy. The Edge is in the business of firearm training, security industry firearm training for the cash in transit, armed response units, advance driver training, close protection training, and medical training in hostile environments to name a few.
I served in the SAPS for 17 years from 1987 to 2004, and for 12 years was within the Special Task Force Unit. The unit was responsible for Tactical hostage realis, and other high-risk operations. During this time, we have encountered lots of shooting incidents and have seen and experienced what effective body armor can do, and the consequences it has if one does not wear any form of protection.
The Edge has fast knowledge of bullets and ballistics and has encountered many different types of body armor. I personally got saved by body armor during my police career.
I was asked to test shoot a vest to see if the claims by the manufacturer can be trusted. I have done the test on the 2nd of July 2022, at PMP shooting range, in Pretoria-West, Gauteng.
The test was done at 4.00 pm in the afternoon. The calibers that the manufacturer claims the vest will give protection against were the 7,62 x 51 NATO Ball and the 7,62 x 39 (AK47) rifle calibers.
The vest was shot at a distance of 25 meters.
The vest was attached to a molded rubber-type dummy target and a carton paper target was inserted between the vest and the dummy, as that would show if there were any projectiles that penetrated the target.
The target was shot twice with both the calibers, i.e., R1 FN rifle and AK47. The shots were placed in close proximity to each other (less than 5 cm), also something that is not the way these tests get done normally. None of the shots produced any sharp projectiles that penetrated the target.
There was however a secondary bump produced to the back of the plate, that would probably break a rib, but NO penetration, which was very very impressive.
The added advantage to this particular plate is the weight. Compared to other steel plates and ceramic plates.
These plates are the lightest I have come across in my entire career. The average weight of steel plates is 2,2 kg and the weight of the entire body armor with steel plates and Kevlar panels is 7,5 to 8,4 kg.
In comparison, these plates are only 0,5 kg per plate and both plates and Kevlar as a unit weigh 3,9 kg.
To an operator weight management, protection and mobility need to be in a fine-tuned ratio to each other. This body armor gives you everything in one product, peace of mind, but still lightweight enough, not to be worn down if the vest is worn for prolonged periods of time. The vest is light and compact and gives a snug fit to the wearer, the vest is also much more comfortable for female operators.
This is not a certified test by any means, but this is my personal opinion, as to what I have seen, and based on my experience with ballistic body armor over many years.
