HikMicro Lynx LE15S Handheld Thermal Monocular Camera. The LE15S handheld thermal monocular camera is equipped with a 256 × 192 infrared detector and a 720 × 540 LCOS display. It supports functions of observation, distance measurement, Wi-Fi hot spot, and so on. The high-sensitivity built-in thermal detector provides you with clear view even in total darkness. The monocular is mainly applied to scenarios such as hunting, hiking, law enforcement, searching and rescuing, and etc.

Description

Lynx LE15 from HikMicro came to the world market at a really good price. It has a 15 mm, manually focusable front lens and a 256 × 192 pixel VOx sensor. This is equipped with a pixel pitch of 12 μ. The image is clear and the edges are sharply demarcated.

The LCOS display, on the other hand, is quite large with 720× 540 pixels, which makes watching pleasant. It has a permanently installed battery that supplies the device with power for up to 8 hours at a time. The detection range (man-size) is 708 m. As a result, the device is not only very helpful in the forest when hunting, but also in the field, it can be used sensibly.

The Lynx LE15 can be used to record photos and videos. These are recorded on the internal 8 GB memory. Via WLAN you can connect the device to your mobile phone and control it via an app (T-Vision)

Review from Original Outdoors (Established North Wales)

“Starting on the outside you have a slightly rubberised coating, a protective flap that keeps pocket detritus away from the sensor/lens and a large eyecup over the screen. On the top you have four buttons to control all of the functions, and underneath a 1/4″ screw thread for tripod mounting and a USB-C charging and data port.

As has started to become the minimum standard with outdoor tech these days, the Lynx LE15 has an IP67 rating. That will make it suitable for most outdoor use – but not for snorkelling.

The Lynx LE15 is around the size of a small Coke bottle (158.3 mm × 61 mm × 57) and weighs around 290g.

Inside you get a battery that will yield 8 hrs of use (with the Wi-Fi and hotspot tracking turned off) and an 8 GB internal memory.

Moving into the electronic side of things – the Lynx LE15 has the basics covered.

There are four colour modes/palettes – ‘White Hot’, ‘Black Hot’, ‘Fusion’ and ‘Red Hot’. The last one there is effectively the ‘White Hot’ mode with a red overlay on the warmest objects in the frame.

The image can be zoomed digitally, at 2x, 4x and 8x. With so few pixels on offer (even at full resolution) you inevitably end up with a blurry mess at 8x magnification.

As this is essentially a camera with an attached monitor, it’s of no surprise that the device will record video clips and jpegs to the internal 8 GB memory.

One of the more useful options is the ‘hotspot tracking’ mode, which overlays a green cross on whatever is the hottest object in the frame at the time. When there are multiple objects of similar temperature in the frame – two similar animals, for example – then it does jump around a little and become distracting.

Out on the ground I found it to be easy to use and gave me the image quality and detection that I needed for most of my nocturnal activities”
